About Medusa
For those of you who are new here, welcome! My name is Quincy, I am the founder and CEO of Medusa Fightwear.
Half of my life so far has been dedicated to training in martial arts. In the early 2000s, I embarked on my journey at a time without much female representation in the sport. Back then, bigger brands didn’t offer a women's cut – everything offered was "unisex", and we'd order them and hope for the best.
I tried boxy board shorts that were unflattering and restrictive to move in. I tried tight vale tudo shorts which moved well but needed constant adjustment. I tried Muay Thai shorts, which were the comfiest fit for striking, but wouldn't stay in place for a single round of grappling. I even tried spats, complete with the groin pouch! (God bless the invention of spats for ladies, but I will always prefer shorts).
By 18 years old, I had the desire to design my own line of training shorts for women, by women. However, the idea lay dormant until several years later, when I returned to training full force, fighting and competing. Despite the growth of female representation in the sport over the years, I still found there to be a significant lack of options for women's training gear.
In 2022, I moved forward with the idea of Medusa and embarked on the first leg of development. I researched competitors sizing and fabrication methods. I assessed all the shorts I owned for all their strengths and weaknesses. I measured myself, my female training partners and friends. From this, the Medusa shorts began to take shape. My priority was the women's cut, and then I furthered my brand to a dedicated men's cut also. In 2023, the first generation of Medusa was produced and made available for purchase.
After years of continued research, design changes, fabric modifications, product development, in cage and on mat testing, I am proud to say that comfort, versatility, and reliability are the result.
Today, you can find the third generation of Medusa shorts and products for purchase. The product speaks for itself.
At Medusa, we continue to strive to better ourselves and provide our fighters comfortable and well-fitting training gear. We believe that everyone deserves training gear that feels made for them and amplifies their confidence in the ring, on the mat, in the cage, or simply training.
As an athlete, competitor, officiant, and as a coach, I've witnessed firsthand the positive impact martial arts has on people's lives. I am always honoured to play a part in that in whatever way I can. As Medusa grows, we are
committed to making a bigger impact on the communities we are a part of. In 2026, we will be dedicating a portion of our proceeds to athletes in need, to help them afford their training or competition fees.
We look forward to seeing you in our gear and supporting our cause.
See you on the mats,
Quincy Mutter
